Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office MiMaRoPa (DA-RFO MiMaRoPa) conducted the Training on Organic Agriculture Production cum Leadership and Values Formation at the Haliwood Hotel, Odiongan, Romblon last August 29-31, 2017.
Prof. Julio Romeo T. Chavez, Asst. Professor III- College of Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry (CAFF), discussed the topic about farmers’ core values and its socio cultural influence in the technology adoption. In addition, Prof. Borromeo B. Motin, Research Director -College of Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry (CAFF), emphasized the enhancement of efficient and effective leadership skills. He gave Five Keys to be an Effective Leader. According to him, to be an effective leader, you have to be: 1) active, 2) cool-headed, 3) farseeing, 4) visionary and 5) courageous. “Bilang leader kailangan ay mayroon kang patutunguhan na tama at maayos”, he said.
Mr. Alejandre G. Solis Jr., President – Romblon Organic Farmers Association (ROFA), demonstrated the organic fertilizer and pesticides production. During this training, the farmers did a hands-on activity on how to produce organic fertilizers and pesticides. The Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ), Fish Amino Acid (FAA) and Calcium Phosphate (CalPhos) are only few of the different organic ways to have a plentiful harvest.
After the organic fertilizer & pesticides training, everyone was given the chance to see the fertilizer and pesticides made out of organic practice. After that, some of the participants provided their feedback with regards to the training on organic fertilizer and pesticides production. Ms. Catherine Mano, farmer, declared that it’s a great start to become more successful in farming through organic practice.
The activity ended with words of appreciation from the participants for the new and knowledgeable information that they have learned that could lead to a higher than their usual income.
