Department of Agriculture – MiMaRoPa Region, conducted the Training on Mushroom production and processing at DA-Palawan Research Experiment Station (PRES) last March 30-31, 2017.
The said training was participated by the different municipalities of Palawan namely: Narra, Sofronio Española, Brookes’s Point, Taytay, Dumaran, and Araceli. Likewise, participants from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Puerto Princesa City also participated during the training.
The training was started by an opening prayer immediately followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Rationale about mushroom was presented by Ms. Marissa Vargas, Regional Mushroom Coordinator. “Ang Oyster Mushroom ay isang uri ng kabute na pinapatubo sa mga ‘fruiting bag’ na ang pangunahing gamit ay dayami at kusot”, she said. The participants were inspired to produce mushroom because they realized that the materials needed is cheaper and easy to find. Engr. Elmer T. Ferry, OIC-RTD for Operations, encouraged the participants to think outside the box. He challenged them to produce more mushroom and to be successful in life.
Dati kilo-kilo ng droga ang kanilang ginagawa, pero ngayon ay kilo-kilo ng mushroom,” an excited Mr. Marlito B. Anza, Inmates Welfare & Development Officer, shared when asked about how the Department of Agriculture’s Mushroom production training helped and supported them.
After the production, Ms. Jennifer Reyes, Palawan Mushroom Coordinator and facilitator, showed how to cook mushrooms in different special recipes. The recipes are Mushroom Tempura, Mushroom Lumpia, Mango Mushroom Jam, Crispy Fried Mushroom, Mushroom Ice Cream and Tocino Mushroom.
After the cooking demonstration, everyone was invited to taste the dishes made out of Mushroom. After that, some participants gave their feedback regarding the cooking demo and training. Mr. Ricardo Ricon, a retired teacher, said that it’s a great start to become successful in life through mushroom.
At the end of the day, the participants were all thankful and appreciative for the new and special recipes that they have learned which could possibly be another source of income for them as well.
