Department of Agriculture successfully held “Tekno Talakayan” on Carabao mango processing and cooking demo to municipalities in Occidental Mindoro in Sikatuna Beach Hotel, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on December 6.
“TeknoTalakayan” on Carabao Mango Processing aims to enlighten intended beneficiaries on the of developing and preserving net essence of the fruit. This is to avoiding spoilage and increase opportunities of the product such as marketability and demand statistics for a longer duration of time.
The activity was attended by around 100 mango growers from the municipalities of San Jose, Mamburao, Calintaan, Rizal, and Magsaysay.
“Ako ay naniniwala sa pamamagitan ng TeknoTalakayan na ito ay mapapataas at mamumulat tayo sa kahalagahan ng industriya ng pagmamangga. Isa ito sa nakikita na isang promising industry lalo na tayo sa bayan ng San Jose, “ said Rommel Calingasan, Municipal Agriculture Officer of San Jose during his welcome address.
Proceeding a premise on mango processing and good manufacturing practices accenting business ethics, food safety and fair trades, Provincial Director of DTI-MIMAROPA Ferdinand Aparri highlighted the advantages of entering the mango processing industry with a briefing on markets and food processing technology, a rundown on activities of the Philippine Mango Industry Foundation, Inc., a national organization committed on sustainability of mango processing and production in competitive platforms, and lastly, the keys to successful mango industry.
While Project Manager of OMSC Food Processing Center Arvin Jonathan Flores headed the cooking demonstration wherein representatives from each municipality earned their assigned end-products such as the mango jelly, mango rolls, mango marmalade, mango jam, and mango wine at the end of the day.
Ang mangga po samin ay tinatapon, sobra po ang aming panghihinayang. Tuwang tuwa po kami dahil makakagawa na kami ng pampalaman sa tinapay at alak,” said Joselito Fulgencio of Mamburao, one of the active participants in the activity.
“Malaking karangalan po sa akin nan aka-attend dito. Yung maraming manga na nalalaglag sa amin ay pinapakain ko lamang sa aming mga alagang hayop, ngayon po ay alam ko na po kung paanu i-process na maaring makatulong na pangdagdag kita. Kaya talagang nakialam ako kanina sa pagluluto,” Mylene Isidro mango grower from Calintaan expressed.
As the activity comes to a close Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer Gerardo Laredo explained that this activity aims to teach sustainability in processing and also expressed his gratitude to the mango growers who spared their time to attend the activity despite the recent typhoon.
