Organic Agriculture Production Training Held

SABLAYAN, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO—Thirty nine (39) participants composed of teachers, farmers, organic enthusiasts and barangay workers have completed the Organic Agriculture Production Training held on Adventure Camp Resort on August 21-22, 2017.

This training was funded by the Organic Agriculture (OA) Program of Department of Agriculture (DA)-MiMaRoPa Region to raise the awareness of the farmers on the benefits of OA to them and to its consumers.

Mr. Randy Balderas from Brgy. Tangkalan, Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro and also the Chairman and Focal Person of Organico Mindoreños, an association of Organic Farmers in Occidental Mindoro, discussed different techniques and technologies that can be done in Organic Farming.

He also taught the participants on how to produce “Isang Dipang Gulayan” where he mentioned that you can plant up to 16 crops in just a meter of soil depending on your needs.

Mr. Balderas discussed also the procedure on making concoctions such as Lactic Acid Bacteria Serum (LABS), Indigenous Micro- Organism (IMO), Oriental Herbal Nutrient (OHN), Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Fermented Fruit Juice (FPJ), Fish Amino Acid/ Kuhol Amino Acid (FAA/KAA), and Calcium Phosphate. These concoctions are essential in organic farming.

On the other hand, Mrs. Perlita Ezperanza, from San Jose, Occidental Mindoro shared her knowledge on vermicompost and its benefits to the soil, to the farmers, and especially to its consumer if it will be used properly.

Mr. Arthuro Sabadisto from Penal Colony in Sablayan, an organic Agriculture Practitioner,discussed the process on making vermin compost and the hindrances on its process such as rodents and ants.
It was followed by the discussion importance of eating organic foods by Dr. Nancy L. Landicho, who is also a Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member. She discussed the importance of eating organically grown food to the participants.

On the following day, the participants experienced the hands- on processing of concoctions of organic produce.

At the end of the activity, Mr. Danny V. Hizon, owner of an organic farm in Sablayan, expressed his thoughts on the activity. “Ang training naito ay maganda. Mas maganda pa dahil mas pinadali at pinasimple ang mga paliwanag tungkol sa organic farming. Sana sa susunod ay mabigyan pa kami ng mga ganitong training. Overall, it was impressive.” He added.

The participants were very satisfied with the training conducted. They asked the LGU to do more trainings and seminars to improve their knowledge in organic farming since the demand in organic products are rising due to the heath issues that we face nowadays.
