The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) held the 14th Agriculture and Fisheries Technology Forum and Product Exhibition in Megamall Megatrade Hall, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City last August 30 to September 2, 2018.
“AGRIPRENEURSHIP: Mainstreaming Agriculture and Fisheries Research and Development (R&D) by delivering technology breakthroughs to farmers and fisherfolk.” is the theme of the event that highlighted the importance of venturing into entrepreneurship in agriculture. The event also gives emphasis on value-adding, new and innovative technologies from BAR funded studies.
Recognizing the importance of disseminating technologies generated from research and development (R&D) and providing new perspectives on technology commercialization, the event provides new perspectives on technology which intends to highlight R&D breakthroughs generated and developed by various partner-R&D institutions in the country like the Regional Field Offices under the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), State Universities and Colleges, and other people’s organizations.
Senator Cynthia A. Villar, current chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, stressed the importance of strengthening the R&D system to improve the lives of the Filipinos. She also stated that the researches should have a practical application that would uplift the lives of our farmer. Lastly, she encouraged the government sector to teach our farmers to mechanize their farming practices to lessen the agricultural cost.

The MIMAROPA Booth was awarded as the second best booth in which they received a plaque and a P 4 Million worth of research grant. They also won a special prize for the non-food category for their display of malunggay pods and amumuting grass, wherein they received a certificate and P 1 Million worth of research grant.
