The field tour is one of the highlights of the said event because it showcased the five hybrid rice varieties -- SL-12H, Bigante Plus, TH-82H, Pioneer 77H and NK 5017H. The purpose of the field tour is to bring motivation to the farmers to plant hybrid rice to increase their harvest and their income.
Dr. Santiago Obien, National Rice Consultant, thanked the farmers for building a brighter nation by providing food on the table of each Filipino people. He also added that by using machineries, there is a possibility to decrease the losses of production of rice and to increase harvest.
Mr. Artemio Casareno, Regional Seed Coordinator, encouraged the farmers to shift into hybrid rice farming and start to plant properly in accordance to the recommendation of the Rice Crop Manager (RCM).
In the same way, farmers were also thankful to the facilitators of the activity. “Eight years na ako sa pagsasaka at ngayon lang ako nagtanim ng hybrid rice. Talagang nakita ko ang malaking kita sa pagtatanim nito”, said Mrs. Milca Belmonte, a farmer from Rizal Palawan.
“Kapag sa hybrid laging may jackpot kasi mas mataas ang ani kaysa sa inbred rice”, Mr. Ben Ticobay, a farmer from Narra, Palawan testified.
